Business Update 6: Tiny Steps
Date Posted: October 17th, 2010
As suspected today’s update is really short. But short is better than non-existent.
Every Sunday in the Business Update I go over What I Did, What I Thought About, and What Needs to Be Done for Dragon Dormant, my Etsy shop. The purpose of this is for you to see up close and personal how a small business is built, one week at a time.
What I Did
Finished 5 Kitty Veil
On Wednesday I added the finishing touches, and on Friday I washed them in an attempt to get the tailor’s chalk out. In the future I need to remember to mark more lightly because the chalk didn’t come all the way out of the fabric.
I think the veils turned out alright, especially for a first attempt.
Gave away a Promotional Veil
We visited a friend this weekend and I gave her a veil to put on her kitties. It was part promotional giveaway part gift. The kitties were less than pleased with said veil, but I think my friend enjoyed it.
Worked on Kitty Hood
In addition to finishing the veils, I spent a bit of time on Wednesday trying to debug the hood. Unfortunately the resulting hood was too small for Rorschy. I will try again.
What I Thought About
How to Spend My Time In November
I want to make the most of my free time when I’m done with work, so I don’t have a repeat experience of those two summers off where I didn’t accomplish much. I think I’ve come up with a structure that will let me do everything I want to do, as long as I don’t waste time transitioning from one activity to another and I make sure I do the tasks that will create the most movement.
What needs to be done.
Same things as last week.
- Take pictures of kitty veil. This is my most important task this week. Not sure how I’m going to do this. I should probably solicit ideas from the household.
- Come up with copy for kitty veil. Second most important task this week. I’d like to have the veils listed this week.
- Write up policies and tweak copy
- Work on kitty hood
- Fix up shipping costs
- Think about sewing guides
- Think about how to sell things.
- Make some different girdle books
- Make recorder holster
